Behavioral husbandry has evolved significantly over the last two decades and these programs must be integrated into an animal welfare program. In this course, we discuss a holistic approach to animal welfare.

Animal Welfare: Evidence-Based Management is a facility-based course that includes hands-on experience learning about the science of animal welfare and the application of skills and knowledge for an evidence-based animal welfare management program. This course helps participants builds the skills necessary to implement an evidence-based management program to ensure high levels of animal welfare.

Creating Successful Exhibits provides an integrated overview of a team-based exhibit development process. The course follows the phases of an exhibit project from the formation of the team, through concept planning, design and construction, to operation, in chronological order of the tasks. Full attention is given to techniques that improve an exhibit's impact on visitors.

This course exposes students to the range of opportunities for ambassador animal use and provides students with the knowledge to effectively develop and manage formalized programs utilizing animal ambassadors. By focusing on a range of methods, rather a single "recommended" approach, students will be better prepared to develop an approach that fits their institution's mission and philosophy.

Managing Animal Enrichment and Training Programs provides students with the tools and skills needed to set up and manage a successful enrichment and training program that meets AZA accreditation standards. While some time will be spent on the concepts of training and enrichment, this course is not a workshop to develop enrichment ideas or learn animal training skills.

This course provides zoo and aquarium staff involved in the daily care of animals with the background and skills necessary to encourage species appropriate behaviors in animal environments and to continue to advance enrichment in zoos and aquariums. This 5-day course will include classroom time that provides an overview of enrichment concepts, focusing on aspects of the SPIDER framework.
